The anime 'Samurai Champloo' describes the story happened between a swordsman, Mugen; a ronin, Jin; and a brave girl, who want to go across Japan and find the samurai with the smell of sunflower, Fuu. Originally, Fuu works as a waitress in a tea shop and during one day, she meets Mugen and Jin, who save her from a band of samurai. 

But a conflict arises between Mugen and Jin, they fight with each other and cause the death of Shibui Tomonoshina, the son of magistrate. Therefore, Mugen and Jin have to be executed. Fortunately, Fuu help them to escape. So in return, the pair accept the request from Fuu, which is to help Fuu find the samurai with the smell of sunflower.
